Halland is an expanding county with extensive animal husbandry of various kinds, where the County Administrative Board serves as the regional expert authority in areas such as animal welfare, disease control, feed, and food safety.
We are seeking one or more animal welfare officers to be placed in the Veterinary Unit, which consists of approximately 20 employees. A significant part of the unit's operations involves animal welfare inspections.
**Job Responsibilities**
We offer a stimulating and varied role where you will primarily work on the inspection of animal welfare in agricultural settings. In the animal welfare inspections, you will conduct routine inspections, complaint inspections, and follow-ups on previously identified deficiencies. You will typically carry out inspections on farms as the sole officer. You will be responsible for the entire case management process, including inspections, drafting inspection reports, registration, issuing orders, and any other decisions. You may also perform inspections related to feed and food safety in primary production, inspect companion animals, respond to public inquiries, and receive reports via the unit's contact phone for animal welfare. You will be part of a workgroup and collaborate closely with approximately 13 colleagues.
Other areas of work within the unit may also become relevant, so you should have an interest and willingness to develop in other operational areas of the unit.
**Qualifications**
We are looking for candidates with an academic background relevant to the position, such as an animal husbandry agronomist focused on agricultural animals, a land surveyor with a focus on animal production, or other education and experience deemed suitable by the employer. We prefer candidates with experience in animal production, such as having worked on a farm, served as an advisor, or worked as an animal welfare inspector or similar. This position requires good computer skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. The role involves travel, so a valid driver's license (Category B) is required.
We place great emphasis on your personal abilities and your capacity to contribute to a positive work environment. You need to demonstrate personal maturity, be self-assured, and be able to distinguish between personal matters and the exercise of authority. It is also important that you are service-oriented and accommodating while being a strong individual capable of enforcing the necessary requirements to ensure good animal welfare within the framework of the law. We value empathetic abilities and the capacity to understand others' perspectives. You should be self-driven and able to coordinate your work independently. You take responsibility for your tasks, plan, organize, and prioritize your work efficiently. Meeting deadlines is essential, as is a flexible approach where revisiting work does not pose a hindrance. We appreciate candidates interested in driving development and actively working on efficiency improvements.
