About this role

About the company GKN Aerospace Sweden is part of GKN Aerospace, which manufactures engine components, aircraft structures, cabin windows, wiring systems, and much more for many of the world’s aircraft. The companies within the Aerospace division that focus on engine components form the Engines business unit, and at the facility in Trollhättan, advanced parts for aircraft and space rocket engines are developed and manufactured. The site also performs engine maintenance. About the position Material Solutions is a new business area within GKN that industrializes new manufacturing solutions with the ambition to make the aerospace industry more sustainable. By combining GKN's existing knowledge in design and manufacturing with new cutting-edge technology for additive manufacturing, we develop new solutions that require drastically less material than conventionally manufactured aircraft engine components. With the same capability, we design lighter and more functional products with the aim of reducing the climate impact of aviation. We are now looking for a "Design Integration Engineer" to join GKN Aerospace Design Engineering department on an exciting journey! GKN's advancement in Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technology, along with our successful industrial introduction of DED-w on the Fan Case Mount Ring, have created new opportunities and increased interest in applying DED to more products. To meet a growing customer demand, we are now expanding our project teams within the "Cases" product portfolio. In the role of "Design Integration Engineer", you will be technically responsible for developing additive manufacturing concepts for various fabricated engine components. A key aspect of your role is to ensure that these new solutions meet the customer's technical product requirements and our expanding capability of the DED-w process. This includes interpreting product specifications and verification activities. As a "Design Integration Engineer", you will also be responsible for breaking down the overall project plan into clear milestones and design activities, covering the aspects of definition, analysis, verification, material engineering, etc. You will lead and collaborate with a cross-functional team, ensuring progress and delivery according to plan and regularly communicating status updates to the project management. The role involves close interaction with several stakeholders, including technology development teams, manufacturing engineers, machine manufacturers, and customer technical representatives. A part of your role will be to manage these stakeholders and ensure that they are all aligned and understand the technical targets and plans for the product application. Additionally, you will support the project management by identifying resource needs for required design activities and conducting technical reviews. Your profile Qualifications: - Engineering education with a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree - More than 5 years of relevant work experience - Experience in the aerospace industry - Experience in handling and documenting technical data and technical requirements - Experience in leading technical teams - Good communication skills - Fluent in English, spoken and written - Citizenship in a NATO country Desirable qualifications: - Experience in design and/or manufacturing with additive manufacturing processes - Experience in technology and/or product development - Experience in design, strength calculation, and/or materials engineering - Leadership or project management training Personal characteristics We are looking for a driven and curious individual who wants to make an impact. You bring creativity and positive energy to the team, and you naturally act as a role model through your engagement and accountability. With a strong technical interest and an engineering background in technology or product development, you are confident in leading technical teams and taking ownership of both your own and your team's deliveries. You are structured, quality-conscious, and have the ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and understandable way - both to colleagues and customers.
