Swedish Radio's mission is to broadcast radio in the public interest, and we have 7.4 million listeners each week. Over half of the population engages with our offerings in some form every day, whether through live linear radio or on-demand, via FM, on our own digital platforms, or through other providers. We provide credible knowledge, in-depth analysis, companionship, and entertainment. Working at Swedish Radio means that, regardless of your role, you are a valuable part of an important mission.
Swedish Radio P4 is a nationwide radio channel and is by far our most listened-to channel. It is utilized by the 25 local radio stations across the country that broadcast regionally. We are the fast and present channel that is rooted in our listeners' everyday lives while also connecting them to the rest of Sweden and the world. We also have an emergency response mission.
We are now looking for a Day Editor for P4 Värmland - an inspiring, fearless, clear, attentive, and proactive team leader.
We seek someone who is passionate about local journalism and wants to help continue developing P4 Värmland into the obvious hub for news and current affairs, as well as an entertaining and engaging companion driven by working with news and understanding how important Swedish Radio is in people's daily lives.
About the position and responsibilities
The position of Day Editor at Swedish Radio P4 Värmland is a permanent full-time role starting as agreed.
As a Day Editor, you will lead the channel's daily news operations, and to succeed in this role, a strong passion for local journalism and an understanding of what engages the audience are essential. You need to be adept at capturing both significant news and trending topics, evaluating their newsworthiness, and coaching your colleagues to produce relevant and engaging publications – both live and on-demand. You must also communicate quickly and clearly with your colleagues, both those on-air and those at the desk, so they can promptly and effectively provide the audience with the latest news. You are a news-driven team player with a sense of what engages.
As a Day Editor, you work in the present, alongside a Planning Editor who focuses on future content – and your joint mission is to provide the audience with quick news updates and, when necessary, delve deeper into the stories, highlight the people behind them, and showcase consequences and constructive solutions. You are competitive, can prioritize, and are meticulous. You believe in journalism that is centered around people.
The Day Editor is part of the channel's management team and is involved in and interested in working strategically to develop the channel. As a Day Editor, you are also expected to take on the role of responsible publisher during certain periods, so you should be an experienced publisher.
