About this role
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civilian defense. Our research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capabilities.
Would you like to help develop the next generation of signal intelligence systems? Do you want to work with advanced applied research and development in a dynamic workplace at the forefront of technology? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!
About the position
You will work at the cutting edge of technology and collaborate with others to develop signal processing algorithms for detection, estimation, classification, and more. Our clients challenge us to push the boundaries of physics, driving us to develop solutions that not only leverage the latest technology but also pave the way for future innovations. Your task may involve estimating unknown parameters from radio signals using advanced signal processing, including AI. Since we test our systems in realistic environments with field measurements, it is a plus if you enjoy spending time outside of office and lab settings.
The unit covers a wide range of technologies, providing great opportunities for varied tasks, including close contact with interested recipients within the Armed Forces. As the projects are relatively small, your contribution will be significant, and you will have ample opportunity to influence the outcome. You will have the chance to follow an idea from concept to finished system while deepening your expertise in your specialist area.
About the unit
You will be part of the Electronic Warfare against Radio Communication unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. The unit strengthens Sweden's security by developing new radio systems for signal intelligence against, and disruption of, an adversary's communication systems. We work closely with our recipients in the Armed Forces but also maintain good contacts with the academic world and the development industry. We develop the entire chain from advanced algorithms to hardware prototypes, which are often tested in real-world environments together with our clients. Here, you can contribute to a safer world in an inspiring and applied research environment. We do what no one else does!
Do you have the skill set we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- A Master's degree in engineering with a focus on signal processing or equivalent
- Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
We want to utilize all your skills and interests, so please feel free to describe any other competencies you wish to continue developing with us.
As an employee at FOI, you have significant opportunities to influence your work, making initiative and self-motivation valuable traits. Since the work is project-based, it is also important that you enjoy collaborating to develop solutions with others and that you have a goal- and results-oriented approach. We expect you to be curious about new technologies and innovative solutions. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Meritorious
It is advantageous if you have:
- Knowledge in radio communication
- Knowledge in electronic warfare
- Previous work experience in signal processing
