About this role

The main task of the Swedish Armed Forces is to defend Sweden and allied states against armed attacks. The Environmental Assessment Section contributes to this by creating conditions for the Armed Forces to carry out its main mission. The primary assignment of the Environmental Assessment Section is to lead and conduct the authority’s work regarding contaminated areas and to manage cases related to environmental permit assessments for the Armed Forces' environmentally hazardous activities. The Armed Forces is currently in a growth phase, in which the section plays an important role, including through permit assessments of environmentally hazardous activities and investigations of possible historical contamination at new establishment sites. The Environmental Assessment Section is a joint resource for the Armed Forces and operates throughout the entire country. Our section consists of 25 positions with a mix of competencies including project coordinators, lawyers, administrators, and financial officers. Here, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute concretely to environmental work in Sweden and to creating conditions for the Armed Forces' main mission. **Main Responsibilities** You will lead the section that operates in advisory, supportive, and investigative roles. The work involves personnel and budget responsibility and representing the authority within the operational area both nationally and, when applicable, internationally. We have close cooperation with other parts of the Armed Forces and with the Fortifications Agency, as well as with other authorities and stakeholders. As section chief, you will lead, distribute, plan, and follow up on the work of the section. This includes giving presentations to senior management. **Requirements** **Qualifications** - Academic degree in environmental/natural sciences (or a relevant field deemed suitable by the employer) - Experience in management with personnel responsibility - Experience in permit assessment for environmentally hazardous activities and/or contaminated areas - Excellent written and oral communication skills in both Swedish and English - Valid Class B driver's license **Personal Traits** We are looking for someone who is initiative-driven, possesses strong analytical capabilities with a big-picture perspective, and understands the consequences of decisions. You have a strong ability to drive issues independently, are flexible, and can handle temporary peaks in workload without becoming stressed. A significant emphasis will be placed on personal qualities, suitability, and achieved results in previous operational areas. **Meriting** - Good knowledge of the Armed Forces' operations and management structure - Experience in matters related to the environmental impact of the Armed Forces' activities - Experience in leading managers, both directly and indirectly - Experience in permit assessment of environmentally hazardous activities, preferably related to the Armed Forces or defense-related operations - Experience in issues concerning contaminated areas, preferably related to the Armed Forces or defense-related operations To ensure the authority's mission is successful, all employees are expected to act according to the established values. The Environmental Assessment Section is located at the Command Regiment in Enköping, but is functionally led by the Headquarters in Stockholm. Starting January 1, 2026, the Environmental Assessment Section will be organizationally transferred to the Headquarters while still being located at the Command Regiment in Enköping.
