About this role
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transportation.
The Transport Division (TA) has the mandate to transport and supervise individuals deprived of their liberty. It is the clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between detention centers and prisons, to court hearings, hospitals, and more. TA also transports individuals deprived of their liberty on behalf of agencies such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatric facilities. The Transport Section Stockholm North is located in bright, modern premises in Solna. Currently, there are seven prison inspectors working here, who collectively oversee approximately 280 employees.
This organization will undergo negotiations during the autumn as a new transport section will open in Farsta in spring 2026. This means that parts of the organization and staff will transition to the new section. By 2026, the Stockholm North and South sections are planned to encompass around 300 employees (200 based in Solna, 100 in Farsta).
The section is now seeking two new prison inspectors, but the number may change depending on upcoming organizational negotiations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As the head of the Transport Section Stockholm North, you will be responsible for approximately 40 employees. When the new section opens in Farsta in spring 2026, the number of employees will decrease. Most of those working in TA are correctional officers, but there are also several employees in administration, security, and other cross-functional tasks. The daily workload and supervision are handled by TA's transport planners.
In addition to personnel responsibilities, you will have overarching functional responsibilities for one or more areas, such as:
• Vehicle fleet, garage, and insurance matters
• Real estate and facility issues
• Recruitment, onboarding, and training planning for correctional officers
• International matters, such as customs, passport controls, contractual issues, etc.
• Administrative functions, including administration and case processing, scheduling, salary reviews
• Safety work and coordination for our instructors, as well as information/communication with our approximately 100 hourly employees.
Personnel management, work environment responsibility, an active focus on safety, and ensuring that day-to-day operations at TA run smoothly are common threads throughout the work of all managers.
The most important part of your job is to be an accessible manager. Our employees spend the majority of their time in vehicles and courtrooms, mainly arriving at TA's premises in the morning and afternoon. This demands that you, as a manager, be present and available when employees are on-site, as well as proactive and approachable so that our employees feel seen and heard.
You will be asked questions about various matters, ranging from scheduling to staffing and vehicle concerns, or you may simply need to be attentive and listen to an employee who has had a challenging experience during the day. TA's operations are governed by regulations, and another important aspect of the job is to stay updated and knowledgeable about the laws and regulations that affect our activities.
