About this role

Do you want to help drive the development towards a more circular construction industry? Do you thrive in a role where you need to take initiative, find new solutions, and see the results of your work? Then you might be the person we are looking for at Örebro Byggretur. About the position Welcome to Örebro Municipality! In the role of construction trade employee at Örebro Byggretur - a building supply store for the reuse of construction materials - you will have the opportunity to contribute to both the development of our operations and your own, as well as the municipality's work with reuse. The store and its operations are located in Boglundsängen in Örebro. In your role, you will work alongside competent colleagues, some of whom participate in labor market initiatives. The tasks at Örebro Byggretur vary greatly from day to day. The work includes routine tasks such as working in the store, but also more varied activities such as assessing potential sales items at one of our partners' planned property renovations. One of your more prominent responsibilities will be to coach and guide interns in their work training and ensure they receive the guidance and development they need. As a construction trade employee, you will sometimes interact with builders on construction sites, where you will train them in soft dismantling and transportation. We look forward to you becoming part of the team where we collectively plan and execute our tasks in the best possible way. Examples of tasks: • Participate in the daily operations of the store, including sales and inventory management • Work and document in the existing operational systems • Participate in the assessment and sorting of reusable construction materials • Register construction materials in a digital reuse tool • Prepare materials for sale through testing and cleaning • Assist the store manager with work leadership/coordinating by planning and distributing daily tasks within the operation • Instruct and coach employees during work training • Train staff at construction/property owner companies in soft dismantling and transportation methods About the workplace Örebro Byggretur has been operated as a project for three years and has now received extended support for another three years, with the goal of establishing a permanent operation. The Örebro Byggretur project is a significant part of the municipality's goals for promoting circular and sustainable construction, as well as creating meaningful employment for those far from the labor market, which can lead to increased opportunities for their own employment. The project is primarily driven by the Technical and Service Administration but is based on collaboration with GAF (the High School and Labor Market Administration), Örebrobostäder (ÖBO), Örebroporten, and Futurum. By creating a platform for the reuse of building materials in collaboration with the municipality's property companies and private actors, Örebro Byggretur can offer residents of Örebro a store where they can sustainably purchase goods for their renovations or projects. In 2024, 168 tons of construction materials were reused through Örebro Byggretur, corresponding to 285 tons of CO2e, which is equivalent to avoiding driving 238,000 miles in a 2020 gasoline car. In 2025, the amount of construction materials reused is expected to double. As an employee within the Technical and Service Administration, you contribute to creating a cutting-edge infrastructure for a more sustainable Örebro. Our mission is to provide sustainable and accessible waste management that motivates and makes it easy for the residents of Örebro to sort correctly. We do this in close dialogue and interaction with colleagues, politicians, citizens, and businesses. Read more about what it’s like to work in Örebro Municipality at orebro.se/jobb.
