About this role
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding more resources, and now we are looking for additional staff. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for correctional facilities, probation services, detention centers, and client transportation.
The adult education within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service corresponds to municipal adult education and is regulated by the Education Act, the Adult Education Ordinance, and the curriculum for adult education. The operation is under the supervision of the Swedish Schools Inspectorate.
The current position is located in Stockholm within the Stockholm principal area. Currently, there are seven principal areas in the country, but all are tightly integrated into a single nationally organized adult education system under the leadership of the head of schools.
Your workplace will be at the regional office, while your colleagues will be located at detention centers and correctional facilities within the scope of the position. This means that the role includes remote leadership. To ensure you are familiar with the daily operations, travel to the relevant correctional facilities and detention centers will be included.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Assistant Principal, your core mission is to lead, support, challenge, and monitor the ongoing development of education, so that students have the best conditions to achieve their study goals.
You have a particular responsibility for the operation, staff, work environment, and finances in the area of responsibility, in close cooperation with the principal. There is a strong interdependence within Adult Education as a whole for it to function effectively for the students. Our guiding principles are quality, equity, legal certainty, and continuity, with accessibility being a key factor.
You will also collaborate with the heads of correctional facilities and detention centers, particularly regarding work environment issues where you are responsible for the organizational and social work environment for staff, while local management is responsible for the physical environment at the site.
Providing adult education in our context requires a high level of cooperation and a solution-oriented approach. The operations are limited by security conditions that affect what is possible and what is not in education.
