About this role

At the School of Textiles at the University of Borås, creativity, knowledge, and innovation come together. Our unique laboratory environments and expertise represent significant parts of the textile value chain. Close collaboration with the industry contributes to the relevance of our research and education, making the School of Textiles a central player in meeting the textile industry's skills needs. Here, design, technology, and management converge to create synergies that strengthen textile research, education, and collaboration. This makes the School of Textiles unique and constitutes an internationally recognized educational center for a more sustainable textile value chain. Welcome to us at the Academy of Textiles, Technology, and Economics! **Your Responsibilities** The School of Textiles is now seeking an engaged and curious Assistant Professor in Textile Technology with a focus on sustainable fibers through the recycling of textile materials using AI. You will be employed and work within a Mistra-funded project: Transforming the Textile Industry with Sustainable Fibers and AI Tools: Moving Beyond Fossil-Based Materials. The project aims to transform textile waste streams into high-quality textile fibers and products, thereby reducing dependence on fossil-based materials and chemical-intensive processes. Through AI-supported separation, process optimization, and quality prediction, circular, resource-efficient production flows are created that lower climate impact and strengthen the competitiveness of the Swedish textile industry. Your responsibilities include the following: • Research (approximately 80%) on the recycling of bio-based waste streams into textile fibers, yarns, and structures. • AI support in the process chain: develop and apply image analysis and sensor technology (e.g., RGB/NIR) for separation and material sorting, as well as use machine learning for process optimization and performance prediction from fiber to finished product. • Functional treatment of recycled material and AI-based quality assessment with feedback to production before defects occur. • Collection and management of data in the university's laboratory environments: establish high-quality datasets for fiber, yarn, and fabric/knit parameters as a basis for AI/ML models and digital prototype development. • Collaboration with internal labs, research groups, and industrial partners for needs-driven research, test beds, and implementation in the Swedish textile industry. • Publication and research funding: publish in international journals and seek external funding for projects and equipment (nationally and EU). • Teaching (approximately 20%) at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in fiber and yarn technology and textile structures, including course development, laboratory work, and supervision of theses. • Educational initiatives in digitalization/AI: develop interactive learning resources and teach responsible use of AI (including ethics) for students, alumni, and professionals. • Participation in doctoral education: engage in the supervision of doctoral students where applicable, and contribute to the development of the research environment. **Your Qualifications** For detailed requirements and information, please see the full advertisement at hb.se. **Your Employment** The position as Assistant University Lecturer is full-time (100%) and fixed-term for four years.
