The Legal Science Unit at Luleå University of Technology is part of the Social Sciences Division at the Department of Economics, Technology, Arts, and Society. In addition to Legal Science, the division includes subject units in Political Science, History, and Economics, with a total of around 80 employees. Research within the different subjects of the division focuses on various social science aspects of environmental and natural resource areas. The unit is in an expansive phase and needs to strengthen its teaching and research.
Subject Description
Legal Science is the study of legal rules and their origin, content, and application. Research at Luleå University of Technology is focused on environmental and natural resource law in a broad sense, encompassing those parts of civil law, public law, international law, and EU law that are significant for environmental protection and related to the utilization and management of natural resources and energy.
Job Duties
As an Assistant University Lecturer, the work tasks will include both teaching and research-related activities. Teaching responsibilities include course planning and development, course management, examination, and supervision within the Legal Science bachelor's program and other legal science courses. Major program and course development may also be included. Teaching at the bachelor's level is conducted exclusively in Swedish. The undergraduate legal science education at Luleå University of Technology includes both civil and public law subjects, as well as legal science theory and methodology. Research will primarily focus on issues related to corporate sustainability work and green financing, but other themes may also be considered. The role also involves actively participating in the subject's development work regarding research, research applications, and collaboration with other disciplines and the surrounding society.
Qualifications
To meet the requirements for employment as an Assistant University Lecturer, the applicant must:
• Have completed a doctoral degree, or have a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree
Primarily, those who have completed their doctoral degree within the last five years will be considered. However, those who completed their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or similar circumstances.

• Good English language skills, both oral and written
• Experience in formulating project applications
• Ability to collaborate with the surrounding society
Employment Period
This position is for a four-year term.
Review for University Lecturer Position
The purpose of the employment is to provide the teacher an opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and merit themselves scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for a University Lecturer position.
An Assistant University Lecturer may, upon application, be promoted to a University Lecturer with a permanent position if they meet the qualification requirements and are deemed suitable based on the assessment criteria mentioned above.
The review requires that the Assistant Lecturer has completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to 7.5 credits or acquired equivalent knowledge through other means.
During the employment period, the Assistant Lecturer must independently, to a significant extent, and with high quality, contribute to the university's research and demonstrate good pedagogical skills.
