Subject Description
Educational work is a subject at the doctoral level that addresses various perspectives and aspects of work within educational institutions in society. Research in educational work deals with issues pertinent to educational practices, professions, and operations. This includes the conditions for teachers' and students' work with teaching and learning, both in practice and in relation to policy and educational reforms.
Job Responsibilities
The position is a qualifying appointment and includes 50% research, as well as teaching, collaboration, and some administration.
The responsibilities include contributing to the department's activities in both research and teaching by independently conducting research and being active in one or more of the department's research environments. The employee is expected to stay updated in their research area and actively seek research funding.
The teaching responsibilities primarily consist of instruction, supervision, and assessment at both undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as pedagogical development work. Work in external educational assignments may occur, as well as teaching and supervision in doctoral education.
The assistant university lecturer is expected to contribute to an ongoing discussion about how research and education can mutually develop and to ensure that relevant research perspectives are included within the framework of the department's teaching assignments.
The purpose of the position as an assistant university lecturer is to develop the employee's pedagogical skills and research for further opportunities for qualification.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
Eligible for appointment as an assistant university lecturer in educational work is someone who;
• has obtained a doctoral degree in educational work or has equivalent scientific competence in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (HF Chapter 4, Section 12a) and the Employment Regulations for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg (GU 2024/3252).
• has demonstrated pedagogical proficiency.
Preference will be given to those who have obtained their doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence no more than five years before the application deadline for the position of assistant university lecturer. However, those who obtained their doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier than five years before the application deadline may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons may include, for example, leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.
Employment
Fixed-term employment for four years with the possibility of promotion to university lecturer and a permanent position. The employment is 100% with a permanent placement at the Department of Education and Special Education. Start date by agreement.
