Regional Laboratory Medicine belongs to Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Area 4, and has a clear coordination mandate for the entire Västra Götaland Region. The organization consists of laboratory medical operations at Södra Älvsborg Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Hospitals in the West, and NU Healthcare.
About the Operations
Clinical Immunology and Transfusion Medicine (KITM) is organized into 6 units in the Västra Götaland Region.
The Immunohematology Unit has approximately 30 employees and is responsible for determining patients' and blood donors' blood groups. We also investigate whether patients have antibodies against different blood cells. This is to ensure that blood component transfusions are performed safely and to investigate cases where a patient has reacted negatively to a transfusion. The methods used are primarily serological tests, but the operation is also expanding with molecular biological methods. We are accredited, work with quality assurance, and are looking forward to an exciting future.
We work with continuous improvements to meet a growing operation and new advanced techniques. Here, you will work on short or long investigations, both planned and acute. In recent years, the unit has introduced new modern equipment to streamline the analysis flow. The unit is staffed 24/7 and operates at both Östra Hospital and Sahlgrenska Hospital.
Job Responsibilities
You will be part of a fantastic team performing both urgent and routine analyses for blood transfusions. Analyses include blood typing, BAS tests, and investigations. You will work with varying tasks and work pace depending on societal events. What you do will directly impact patient care. There are also opportunities to participate in training, courses, and new projects.
