About this role
**Description**
Nordhem School is a prestigious institution located in the heart of Linnéstaden, close to both the city center and Slottsskogen.
The school accommodates over 750 students, the majority of whom are in grades 7-9. The school focuses on providing quality education in a safe and stimulating environment. Nordhem School is led by a principal, three assistant principals, and around 100 dedicated staff members. We implement PALS—a school-wide approach based on relationship building, clarity, and structure, both in preventive and direct measures.
We operate according to the City of Gothenburg’s library plan for 2024-2028, with the goal of ensuring that the school library has a clear pedagogical function, primarily aiming to promote students' reading and media and information literacy through collaboration with educators, as well as creating an inclusive school library for all. The focus of the school library's activities is to enhance students' goal fulfillment, well-being, and identity development by integrating the school library into the teaching process.
**Responsibilities**
As a school librarian, you will work closely with students and teachers to strengthen young people's engagement with reading, language development, and digital competency. Through reading promotion strategies, language development methods, book talks, thematic exhibitions, and collaborations with subject teachers, you will spark students' curiosity and desire to read. You will plan and conduct instruction on information search techniques, source criticism, and digital awareness, contributing to students’ ability to navigate a complex information landscape.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the school library is an accessible, inspiring, and safe learning environment—socially, pedagogically, and physically. The role includes media planning, acquisitions, and book management, as well as creating meaningful activities that attract students to the library during breaks.
Together with school librarians from other primary schools in the city, you will be part of the primary school administration's librarian network for collegial learning. You are expected to participate in professional development initiatives aiming to enhance school library operations.
**Qualifications**
We are looking for candidates with a university degree in library and information science or equivalent. You should have strong digital competencies relevant to the tasks and a keen interest in children's and young adult literature.
The role requires pedagogical skills, good knowledge of children's and youth literature, and a genuine interest in young people's learning and culture. You need to be communicative, relationship-oriented, and independent, with the ability to collaborate and take initiative.
We seek individuals who can work well with others and build positive relationships with both students and colleagues. You create conditions for learning to occur and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You also take initiative and responsibility for progress in your work, whether independently or in collaboration with others. You contribute new ideas and perspectives and often see multiple potential solutions to various situations.
We welcome your application!
