About this role
The school in Luleå is a national role model for national minorities, and we aspire to become a leader in this area in the country. All children and young people from national minorities can, want, and dare to develop language and cultural belonging in all activities.
Language and culture are seen as assets for the individual and for society. Since February 2018, Luleå Municipality has been the administrative municipality for the national minority languages meänkieli and Sámi. Previously, Luleå has been the administrative municipality for Finnish. Being an administrative municipality means, among other things, that the municipality must inform and offer bilingual preschool to the relevant target group of parents and their children. We are therefore looking for an educator who speaks Finnish.
The substantially bilingual preschool opened in the autumn of 2019 at Charlottendals Preschool, where we have departments for meänkieli, Sámi, and Finnish. At the substantially bilingual preschool, an environment is organized where an administrative language is alive and can be used and developed for large parts of the day. Charlottendals Preschool is located in a scenic area in the heart of Luleå. Just around the corner, we have the beautiful Boulognerskogen with a small football/hockey field nearby that we can use. Our operations are characterized by the belief that all children should be in a permissive, safe, creative, enjoyable, and learning environment. It is important in our workplace that everyone feels good and knows they have a valuable role. This applies to both children and adults. We have a supportive work climate and care for one another, both within work teams and throughout the entire facility.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a childcare worker, you have an important role in the team where you contribute to creating a positive and developing environment for all children. You will work independently and collaboratively with colleagues to develop activities based on the goals and intentions of the curriculum. You should be curious and knowledgeable about children's learning and be interested in staying updated on topics related to child development and learning. You will promote good cooperation with parents.
The purpose of the substantially bilingual preschool is to provide good opportunities for children within the administrative languages to preserve, develop, and reclaim language, culture, and identity. The administrative language is spoken by regular staff with the children between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM every day. Staff should have good language skills and be able to adapt their language to meet the children's needs. The national minority language is the norm, and you need to work on language development with a revitalization focus.
A stimulating cultural environment is built around language and culture as equally central elements. The development of the operations occurs in collaboration with parents and other key stakeholders. As an educator at the substantially bilingual preschool, you have the opportunity to develop language skills and become a specialist. Our ambition is to become a leader in the country, and you will become an ambassador for Luleå and the national minority languages.
