Come and contribute to Stockholm's growth through culture! Welcome to Us Stockholm City Library has approximately 400 employees and around 40 libraries in the city of Stockholm. The libraries shall work to develop a democratic society by contributing to knowledge sharing and free opinion formation. Stockholm City Library plays a central role by offering all Stockholm residents free access to culture, education, information, and community services. Your Workplace Tranströmer Library is one of three libraries in the Södermalm unit. You will be part of a work group with the unit's other children's librarians. The children's activities in the unit are creative, with a clear literary focus and ongoing development of activities and methods. The children's librarian position is based at Tranströmer Library, but work at other libraries in the unit may occur. In our operations, children and young people are a priority target group, which means they are in focus for all employees. Tranströmer Library is located in the Community Center in central Södermalm and is one of Stockholm's most visited libraries, with 800,000 visitors per year. It is an intense workplace, and you need to enjoy working at a high tempo with varied tasks. We Offer Stockholm City Library is introducing a new library and logistics system this year. All staff will receive training in the new system. There are opportunities for further education, and as an employee, you have access to a learning portal with lectures and courses on various subjects. Your Role For this position, we are seeking a children's librarian who will work to inspire reading in our children's department, preferably with new methods. The role primarily involves: - Receiving preschool groups, conducting storytelling sessions, and providing initial library tours - Collaborating with preschools to inspire reading - Offering reading-inspiring support and book recommendations to preschool educators - Conducting outreach to preschools when needed - Planning and managing programs during school holidays - Recommending books that inspire more reading and staying up-to-date on current literature for the target group You will staff the children's department and also work in our reception, adult, and youth sections. You have good pedagogical skills and enjoy meeting children of different ages and visitors in our priority target groups. You will participate in planning and implementing the library's program activities running throughout the terms, with extra focus on preschool groups and educators. Providing excellent service and maintaining a professional approach to our library visitors is a basic requirement, as is being a team player with good collaboration skills. You can handle stressful situations, have an open working style, and can adapt to different tasks as needed. Your Competence and Experience We are seeking someone who has: - Degree in Library and Information Science - Experience working to promote reading at libraries with the target group - Experience conducting storytelling sessions, sometimes complemented with TAKK, dramatizing stories, and creating creative reading-promoting activities - Knowledge of current reading-promoting methods and up-to-date on current literature for the target group - Good digital competence, ability to inspire and help colleagues and visitors - Knowledge of media and information literacy, and ability to pedagogically convey it to our users - Interest in working at a library with high visitor volume We place great importance on personal qualities such as a communicative and pedagogical approach, initiative, creativity, good interpersonal skills, and strong collaboration abilities. Conditions At Stockholm City Library, we use profile clothing when working with visitors. Working hours are scheduled, including evening and weekend shifts. The work can be physically demanding at times, involving lifting and moving media. The City of Stockholm works with competence-based recruitment aimed at assessing each person's competence and thereby preventing discrimination.
