Backend Developer - Stockholm

Backend Developer / Data Platform Engineer Role Description We are looking for a backend-oriented developer to join a team that builds tools and practices for transforming raw data into actionable analysis. The team is responsible for a proprietary SQL tool and platform support for dbt, primarily serving Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists. In this role, you will work on both the operation and further development of the data and transformation platform, with a particular focus on SQL pipelines, dbt, and AI support for migrating from an internal transformation tool. Responsibilities • Support and enhance the team's dbt environment, including managing and optimizing pipelines. • Ensure stable, scalable, and up-to-date SQL-based data pipelines in modern data warehouse environments. • Participate in an AI-assisted migration from an internal transformation tool to dbt. • Work on data verification loops, such as tests, lineage, quality controls, and contract checks. • Evaluate open-source and commercial options for SQL transformations through simpler technical prototypes and proofs of concept. • Write and maintain code in Python and bash scripts (and Java when necessary). • Collaborate closely with Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists to ensure the platform meets their needs. • Contribute ideas and initiatives on how AI code assistants and agent-based systems can be used to streamline development and migration. • Work in fast-paced distributed teams, where you both understand and help shape the direction of the platform's development. Requirements • Strong proficiency in Python and bash scripting (experience with Java is a plus). • Good knowledge of modern analytics data stacks, such as SQL, dbt, or other pipeline technologies. • Several years of deep experience with SQL-like languages and working with data warehouses, such as BigQuery or equivalent. • Experience using AI code assistants to enhance personal efficiency in development work. • Familiarity with AI engineering principles, i.e., building products on top of foundational models. • Proactive with the ability to maintain a high pace and energy in deliveries. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in distributed teams. • Ability to take initiative and work in a high-uncertainty environment, where you are expected to both understand and influence direction. Preferred Qualifications • Practical experience with agent-based systems (agent-based/AI-driven solutions). • Experience working in larger cloud-based platforms for data and analytics. • Experience building internal developer tools, platform components, or developer experience solutions. • Experience collaborating with Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists in production environments.
