About this role
**Description**
Are you the one developing leadership, work methods, and processes to ensure the right information is preserved for the future? We are seeking a driven, courageous, and confident department head for our two departments in Gothenburg and Vänersborg.
**Job Duties**
The Archives Department in Vänersborg and the Research Service and Association Archives in Gothenburg each have about ten employees working with the reception of archival deliveries, telephone and research services, the provision of archival documents, and much more. As department head, your mission is to lead, drive, develop, and follow up on the operations and the employees. This also includes developing leadership, work methods, and processes to ensure that the operations are carried out as efficiently as possible.
Given that you have employees at two different geographical locations, you will travel for work, often one to two days a week to Vänersborg, but your primary placement will be in Gothenburg. You will report directly to the chief administrator and be an important participant in the management team.
Archive issues are becoming increasingly relevant in society as digitalization rises. The Regional Archive, which is Sweden's largest municipal/regional archive institution, is involved in this development and is building a digital final archive among other initiatives, leveraging the opportunities that digitalization offers in document provision. We have extensive expertise in archiving, and together we ensure that the right information is preserved so that everyone has the same chance to exercise their democratic rights and access public documents now and in the future.
In your role as a manager, you will encompass three roles:
**Leader** - you are a role model and an example. Your leadership is characterized by meeting employees with respect, responsiveness, and trust. You inspire learning, development, and change, allowing employees to take responsibility based on their knowledge and competence. You use communication to develop the organization and provide employees with constructive feedback on their work.
**Operational Representative** - you are responsible for developing the operations towards established goals and ensure that you and your employees can represent both the Regional Archive and Gothenburg City and Västra Götalandsregionen.
**Employer Representative** - you represent Gothenburg City and Västra Götalandsregionen in relation to the employees, possess good knowledge of current laws, agreements, policies, and other governing documents, and ensure that employees have equal rights and opportunities at work while clarifying their obligations.
**Qualifications**
- Higher education of at least three years with a relevant specialization. A background in archival science is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Training in leadership.
- At least five years of professional experience from administrative work in the public sector.
- At least two years of experience in a managerial role.
Your leadership is characterized by being results-oriented and courageous—you dare to try new approaches and challenge yourself and your surroundings with a focus on goals and the bigger picture. You are a confident, stable, and communicative leader who brings out the best in others. When faced with challenges, you tackle them with curiosity, solution focus, and humility.

**About Us**
The Regional Archive is Sweden's largest municipal/regional archive. Here, there are over 12 miles of paper documents and vast amounts of digital information. The public, researchers, businesses, and governmental authorities seek information from us concerning schools, social services, healthcare, politics, urban development, public transport, culture, community life in Gothenburg, and much more.
To be able to search for and provide the requested material, we need to ensure that the right information is preserved in the right way. We accomplish this by making decisions, conducting oversight, and providing training, advice, and support to the authorities. The regulatory framework we operate under allows for the development of modern information management in collaboration with the operations. It should be as easy as possible for authorities to do the right thing. The Regional Archive is also developing and adapting a digital final archive to meet the future needs for information.
The Regional Archive is an administrative body within Gothenburg City and is governed by the Archive Committee, a joint archival authority for Västra Götalandsregionen and Gothenburg City. The administration has approximately 50 employees in Gothenburg and Vänersborg who contribute in various ways to ensuring that the right information is preserved and accessible today and in the future.
