Area of Operation: Psychiatry
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer services to two million people in Central Sweden. There is always something happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both challenging trials and wonderful events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
The 4B inpatient unit consists of 14 beds and caters to patients with alcohol, drug, and/or medication dependence who require detoxification treatment or withdrawal assistance. Admissions occur either via the psychiatric emergency department or outpatient care, but can also be planned from the municipality's addiction units. All treatment is based on an individual care plan.
The unit is staffed by doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, clinical pharmacists, and social workers. Based on the individual needs of the patients, we collaborate and consult with other psychiatric specialists at Akademiska sjukhuset to ensure that patients receive high-quality care. The operation is part of the section for Addiction and Neuropsychiatry, a leading section where research and development of care are prioritized. All staff have access to supervision, and we actively work to improve the work environment for our personnel. We also focus on improving patient care and are committed to involving and supporting relatives. The team on 4B is open, positive, secure, and competent, making it easy for new staff to integrate into the unit.
Your Role
As a nurse in psychiatric inpatient care, you play a crucial role in the team working on patient recovery. In collaboration with colleagues from various professional categories, you assess and plan the individual patient's needs for support, care, and treatment. You work closely with the patient and collaborate with psychiatric outpatient care, other healthcare providers/community agencies, and relatives. You are responsible for documentation and administration of medications, among other tasks. Guiding students and new employees is a natural part of your responsibilities. It is important that you have a genuine interest in working with individuals with psychiatric issues and that you want to contribute to the development of our operations.
Your Qualifications
You should be a licensed nurse, preferably with experience in psychiatric care. As a person, we hope you are positive, driven, engaged, flexible, and solution-oriented, with the ability to prioritize among varying tasks in a changing environment, possess an open-minded view of humanity, and enjoy challenges. We also expect you to have a good service attitude towards both patients and colleagues as well as external parties. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Specialized nursing education and previous work experience in psychiatry are advantageous but not required.
If you are a newly graduated nurse, we are the perfect unit for you to become confident in your nursing role and gain broad experience in addiction psychiatry. After an introduction tailored to your needs, you will find a stimulating work environment where no two days are alike. Working on the unit will give you a comprehensive insight into various psychiatric conditions. After completing your introduction, you will be assigned a mentor during your first year. The mentor is an experienced nurse, and the purpose of the mentorship is to make your first year on the unit even more secure. The unit manager and deputy unit manager, who are both specialist nurses in psychiatry by training, are also highly present and involved in the daily work.
If you are an experienced nurse, you will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills with us and take responsibility for the development of various areas based on your interests and the needs of the operation. Good knowledge of Swedish is a requirement. We place great importance on personal suitability and your ability to fit into our team.
We work based on evidence-based methods and place significant emphasis on care development and research in addiction care.
If you are not yet finished with your nursing education but will be by January 2026 or June 2026 and have an interest in psychiatry, you are welcome to apply for the position.
We Offer
We offer a permanent full-time position. A probationary period may apply. Prior to employment, a background check will be conducted. You may be scheduled for day and evening shifts, including some weekends. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, and the position may be filled before the application deadline.
