Secretariat for EU and International Affairs, Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure The Secretariat for EU and International Affairs (EUI) is primarily responsible for coordinating the ministry's EU work and international matters, planning the international trips and visits of the ministry's leadership, and providing support to the ministry's units in EU processes and international issues. The ministry's staff stationed abroad are placed at the EUI Secretariat. We are now seeking an Agricultural Counsellor, stationed in Brussels. Your Workday. Sweden's Tomorrow. As an Agricultural Counsellor, you will represent Sweden's interests within the EU in Brussels. Your responsibilities primarily include food issues as well as veterinary and phytosanitary matters, and issues related to regional development and the EU's cohesion policy. This means you will negotiate, promote, and safeguard Swedish interests in council work. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure and under the leadership of the ambassadors at the EU representation. A key part of the role is to work purposefully towards other EU institutions and member states. Therefore, strategic networking is an important aspect of the job. The position requires strong collaborative skills, while also being highly independent and demanding that you take your own initiatives. You must be able to coordinate and act independently and responsibly in challenging negotiation processes. You need to be able to switch quickly between different subject areas and working methods multiple times a day. In your work, you will actively influence other institutions such as the European Commission and the European Parliament, acting as one of the representatives of the Government Offices and an extended arm at the EU institutions. The area of responsibility includes policy areas with significant budget implications and strong national interests in many EU countries; thus, the role requires integrity and sound judgment. Read more about our activities at www.regeringen.se. Your Background We are looking for candidates with an academic degree and several years of work experience in a relevant field. Furthermore, you should have practical experience in EU work and knowledge of EU negotiations, as well as experience from the Government Offices or another relevant government agency. We also expect that you possess very good knowledge of the EU and its working methods, as well as relevant knowledge of the EU budget process and the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). As an applicant, you should also have excellent proficiency in Swedish and English, both written and spoken. Additionally, experience in independently leading operations or driving processes, experience from working in EU institutions, and good knowledge of the Government Offices and its processes for EU matters will be considered advantageous. It is also highly meritorious if you have current knowledge of relevant EU processes for the position, knowledge of other areas of responsibility of the Minister for Rural Affairs beyond those primarily covered by the position, and proficiency in additional EU languages. Start date is August 15, 2026. Stationed in Brussels, conditions according to UVA, which also means that only those who are permanently residing in Sweden can be employed in this position. The position is classified in a security category, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
