Your Responsibilities You will work on X chromosome inactivation and allele-specific DNA methylation in various biological and disease-related contexts, including X-linked diseases, autoimmune diseases, and hereditary cancer, within Colm Nestor's research group. You will be part of an active and international team where you are expected to present your work at both local and international meetings. As a PhD student, you will focus on your doctoral education and the research project you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental assignments, up to 20% of full-time. Your Qualifications You have completed a master's degree in biology/medical biotechnology/genetics or have finished courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, with at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level in biology/medical biotechnology/genetics, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. You must have excellent proficiency in English, and fluency in Swedish, both spoken and written, is required, as the position involves contact with healthcare personnel, patients, and research participants, as well as the interpretation of medical documents in Swedish. Requirements: • Extensive experience in both laboratory work and bioinformatic analysis of Oxford Nanopore long-read sequencing data related to X-linked diseases. • Proficiency in proteomic methods, including MALDI-TOF and HPLC-MS, as well as data analysis. • Experience with 5mc/5hmc dot blot analyses to investigate DNA methylation levels in humans. • Expert knowledge in programming with Bash, Python, and R. • Experience in phasing and analyzing X inactivation at the genomic level. • In-depth knowledge of DNA methylation and X chromosome biology. Meritorious: • Experience working in an international and multicultural team. • Excellent communication and scientific presentation skills. • Practical experience with various molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, flow cytometry, and human cell culture. You are a team player with a balanced, positive attitude and a curious mind. In a fast-paced and dynamic research environment, a structured and organized approach to work is highly valued. You will work in a team of researchers with diverse backgrounds, including PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, and should have a very good ability to collaborate and work effectively with others. You do not need to attach a statement of purpose with your application. Your Workplace You will work at the Department of Women's and Children's Health (BKH), in Colm Nestor's research group. The research group is an international team that combines clinical research, molecular biology, genomics, and big data analysis to gain insights into the molecular origins of diseases. The Department of Women's and Children's Health (BKH) conducts preclinical and clinical research as well as undergraduate and graduate education in medical science. About the Employment Upon acceptance into the doctoral program, your employment as a PhD student will be processed. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here. The employment is limited to four years full-time. Initially, you will be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. An extension of employment up to five years may occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental assignments. In special circumstances, further extensions may be granted.
