The Department of Culture and Aesthetics is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Humanities, with approximately 110 employees and around 2,000 students per academic year.
The subjects offered at the department include: History of Ideas, Art History, Cultural Heritage Studies, Curating, Literary Studies, Musicology, and Theatre Studies. Teaching and research are conducted in all subjects.

Job Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate level, with a focus on the introductory and intermediate courses in the history of ideas, as well as related tasks. The substitute we are seeking should primarily be able to lecture and lead seminars, as well as supervise and assess theses. Some teaching may take place in the evening. Instruction is mainly conducted in Swedish, but teaching in English may also occur. Teaching primarily takes place on campus. Additionally, the substitute is expected to participate in the collective efforts of the faculty to develop the subject's teaching thematically and pedagogically.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible for employment is someone who has completed a degree from a relevant higher education program or has equivalent qualifications, as well as demonstrated pedagogical skills.
All teaching positions at Stockholm University require that the applicant has the ability to collaborate and is otherwise suitable to fulfill the job responsibilities.
Assessment Criteria
Emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills and academic qualifications. Administrative ability will also be considered. Experience in teaching the relevant courses or equivalent is advantageous.
Completed courses in higher education pedagogy or equivalent, good course evaluations, and references are beneficial. It is also important to have the ability to collaborate well with colleagues. Stockholm University will primarily consider applicants who, based on a comprehensive assessment of competence, qualifications, skills, and personal abilities, have the best conditions to carry out the relevant tasks and contribute to a positive development of the department.
About the Employment
The position encompasses approximately 50% and is temporary for a period of about 6 months, starting in January 2026 or by agreement. The position of adjunct at Stockholm University does not provide opportunities for promotion to higher-level academic positions.
