Horticultural science is an interdisciplinary subject that spans from plant physiology to business economics. The subject plays a crucial role in future challenges and contributes solutions for sustainable production of food and green plants.
As a lecturer, you will play a central role as a teacher, supervisor, and examiner.
About the Job
The primary task is teaching and teaching administration within SLU's educational programs in horticulture, focusing on horticultural production physiology. As a lecturer, you will play an important role in promoting and strengthening the interdisciplinary breadth within the subject of horticulture.
Teaching will primarily take place in the Bachelor's program for Garden Engineering Cultivation, but also in other courses at undergraduate and advanced levels in horticulture and agroecology. Teaching will be conducted in collaboration with teacher colleagues and in close contact with professionals outside the university. Within the scope of the position, there are good opportunities for pedagogical education and further training. Teaching will be conducted in both Swedish and English.
In addition to teaching, the tasks include course leadership, which involves comprehensive responsibility for planning, implementation, and evaluation (both in terms of quality and economics) of courses, development of teaching modules, supervision, and educational administration.
Your Background
We are seeking someone with extensive expertise in horticulture. You should be a horticulturist, or have a master's degree in horticulture, or equivalent, and be a person with great pedagogical commitment. Pedagogical education and/or experience is highly meritorious. Experience in teaching and a broad network in the gardening industry are very meritorious.
You should have a strong interest in research and development within the industry, as it is important that teaching is research-based.
You should be proficient in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, and be a team player who contributes to a positive work environment.
About Us
The Department of Biosystems and Technology explores the interaction between soil, plants, animals, environment, climate, and humans in systems for sustainable production of food and renewable raw materials. The issues in teaching and research revolve around sustainable and efficient use of limited resources in production in greenhouses, fields, and stables.
