About this role

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading institutions of higher education. It has approximately 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity. Lund University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Gender equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles in all aspects of our operations. **Description of the Workplace** The research group for neurodegenerative diseases focuses on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers, who undergo extensive testing with brain imaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological assessments. Our group employs advanced statistical tools to analyze these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be part of a growing interdisciplinary team consisting of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers dedicated to enhancing the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and the position is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund. We strive to create a positive, supportive, stimulating, and inclusive work environment based on respect and mutual consideration, and we aim to promote employee development. We are seeking two new employees for the position of postdoctoral researcher. **Project Description** The project will involve the integration of PET, multimodal MRI, and other biomarker data to i) establish the temporal order of key pathological events in Alzheimer's disease, and ii) understand how early pathological changes in Alzheimer's disease lead to individual variation in the expression of the disease. The project includes the integration of several large, longitudinal datasets with brain imaging. **Duties and Responsibilities** At Lund University, a postdoctoral appointment provides an opportunity for scientific and pedagogical qualification. Primarily, there is room for qualification in research, but some higher education pedagogical training may also be included. Teaching may also be part of the responsibilities. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily participate in the data analysis described above. Other tasks may include: data organization and processing; composition, editing, or execution of computational scripts; presenting data and results at internal and external research meetings; compiling scientific manuscripts; informal mentoring and knowledge sharing with other staff; and/or compiling grant applications and/or research scholarships. Other tasks may also occur. **Qualifications** The following qualifications are required for the position: - A PhD or equivalent foreign degree in neuroscience, engineering, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline. The PhD must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. - Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research. - Pedagogical skills. - Research experience in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. - Experience in organizing, processing, and/or analyzing neuroimaging data. - Ability to independently perform large-scale data analyses. - Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing. - Previous publications in high-impact scientific journals. - The candidate is meticulous, detail-oriented, and committed, with a strong interest in research on neurodegenerative diseases. The following qualifications are advantageous for the position: - The applicant should have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the application deadline. - Good knowledge of computational programming, preferably Python or R. - Experience in handling fMRI data. - Experience in handling PET data. - Familiarity with and experience in high-performance cluster computing. - Experience with Git and GitHub. - Familiarity with best practices in reproducibility and open science. **We Offer** Lund University is a government agency, which means you will receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension.
