About this role

1-2 Postdoctoral Positions in Molecular Biology Job Responsibilities The work focuses on developing genetic tools to study adaptations to oxygen-poor lifestyles. Some of the planned methods include anaerobic protist cultivation, yeast genetics, telomere analysis, bioinformatics analysis, and experimental development of yeast strains, comparative genomics and transcriptomics with a focus on gene expression, as well as experimental evolutionary methods. The primary tasks of a postdoctoral position are to conduct research. The candidate will work on the research project described above. They are expected to apply and optimize methods to drive the overall project goals, and design and interpret experiments. All work will be performed embedded in a research group, which requires sharing expertise, open discussion of results, and facilitating experiments from other team members. International collaboration is planned for the project, including work visits to at least one foreign lab. Active participation in international conferences is expected, as well as dissemination of results in peer-reviewed international publications. Opportunities for supervising bachelor's and master's thesis projects, as well as co-supervision of doctoral projects, can be offered and would be encouraged. The candidate is expected to actively seek independent research funding during the employment period to provide an opportunity to transition to an independent research position. Finally, the position may include limited administrative tasks related to the job responsibilities mentioned above. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, those who have completed their degree within the last three years should be considered. The calculation of the three-year timeframe is based on the application deadline. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, union representative duties, etc. Additional Requirements - Excellent English skills, both verbal and written - Documented ability in nucleic acid extraction, bacterial/yeast transformation, Southern/Northern blot analyses, telomere analysis methods, protein production, NGS library preparation, microscopy methods including fluorescent microscopy of yeast and protists - Experience with anaerobic work, including handling prokaryotes and protists - Documented experience in bioinformatics and gene/protein database work, RNA-seq analysis - Good publication record of peer-reviewed academic papers - Proof of ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member - Proof of ability to organize resources, plan and develop work activities, and meet deadlines effectively and consistently - Ability to communicate scientific results and knowledge to non-specialists and students Desirable/Meritorious - Documented ability and experience working with genetic, cell biological, and biochemical methods to be used in the project - Documented ability and experience with wet and in silico work with non-model organisms or environmental microorganisms - Documented ability and experience with robust statistical modeling using R - Documented ability and experience supervising students, individually and in groups - Experience with protist encapsulation and cell sorting Application Application can be written in Swedish/English and should include: - CV including contact details for at least two references and publication list (max 5 pages) - Copy of doctoral degree certificate and any other certificates/grades you wish to invoke About the Position The position is time-limited for two years according to central collective agreement.
